"It all began with a scenic flight by float plane from Vancouver to Port Washington. A friendly taxi driver took me up to Pender Paradise. When I first stepped out on the veranda, I immediately knew this is gonna be a great vacation! I felt comfortable from the first moment and enjoyed the great view from the deck overlooking all the activities on the water. The hot tub was a great thing to relax in after hiking and biking the Penders with its steep hills, short and mossy trails, parks and shores that provide plenty of opportunities for exploration!!! Here are just a few ideas of short strolls, hikes and great viewpoints you should not miss: Mount Norman and Beaumont Provincial Marine Park (South Pender). It is about an hour climb through thick forest to the summit with panoramic views. There is also a beautiful trail along Bedwell Harbour's shoreline. Roesland/Roe Islet offers a short walk through a former seaside resort with old and dilapidated cottages that provide a kind of outdoor museum. Oaks Bluff has spectacular views of Swanson Channel and the gulf islands (south side of Pirates Road, half way to Wallace Point). Mortimer Spit on South Pender, which is near the bridge on Canal road, nice beach access, favorite launch site for kayaks. The neighbourhoods. Walk around Buck Lake or take the Buck Lake Trail down to Thieves Bay or Boat Nook, watch herons on Magic Lake, take a cappuchino at That Little Coffee Spot and take a short stroll along Medicine Beach. Pender Paradise is definitely a place to remember. It's such a peaceful setting, so close to nature. The perfect spot to relax and forget about the daily rush. People have come here to the edge of the world and never left, their reasons for staying are quietly respected. My last day and i have just spotted 6 whales on their move along the coast heading north, Fantastic!!!" Editors note: Christine came over from Switzerland and spent three weeks on Pender exploring the islands with only a bike.
